Default XJ Diesel: Cut-Out when driving

Was driving today and my 1999 XJ Diesel cut-out on me, lost all power, check engine light came on, and had to drift over to the side of the road.
I had only been driving about 3 minutes and it cut-out as i lifted off the throttle coming into a corner.

Anyway, started it up again and it was fine, drove back home with no problems.

Just looking for any help on start on diagnosing this one, or has anyone had similar?

Mine does it every now & again. I put it into neutral, turn it off, then turn it on , put it back into gear & let it start when I take my foot off the clutch. dont know what causes it.

Sounds like an intermittent electrical connection almost like a bad earth or cold soldered joint on the ECU board.

I recalled a problem I had a few years ago on another make diesel that would momentarily return to idle and not accelerate, it turned out to be a faulty brake pedal switch.
Most modern diesels get an input from the brake pedal stop switch to the ECU, it is a long shot but worth considering.

ive experienced issues similar to this as well. im wondering if we are having the same issue. like you i can reproduce the issue when i back off the accelerator coming to the lights. however i have found i can reproduce the issue when i have the car in neutral bring the revs up high and then completely back off. this makes me think its a fuel delivery issue. im also use to rev matching when i gear down and have been able to reproduce. nfi what the root cause is. i manage the issue by taking it easy when i come to the lights. would be keen to resolve it but not sure where to start.

Here is a very good thread on it, long but seems to come down the fuel pump or some degraded wires under the back seat, look at post #48
