Hhmm, don't have a clear pic, but it straps into the rack I've built. It sits in the cargo area between the Waeco and the back of the rear passenger seat.

Unhappy WK2 Dual Battery Setup

Thanks to everyone for their posts about what they have done, they prove most helpful.

I have a question though. I have a 2012 GC Laredo and want to fit a DC DC Charger and am worried it has a smart alternator. I couldn't afford the real expensive charger and fear mine doesn't have the same low cut in level that some of the expensive ones do.

Scarps, your set up would indicate that it doesn't. Can anyone clarify that before I ask the Auto Electrician to wire up my charger and look like a goose?

Cheers.

Smile WK2 Dual Battery Setup

Well further to my previous post, I had an auto elec wire up my Rydge Ryder 20amp DC DC Charger (rebadged Matson or Powertrain) to my 2012 Laredo and it works perfectly. The auto elec assured me it would be alright and I wasn't so sure, but he was right. After starting the engine, it takes less than a minute for the charger to start charging and it regulates the amps nicely, according to the battery state. So I hooked up my 50l Evacool to the battery to drain it a bit, then connected it back up in the car to charge it. This time I measured 20 amp input and saw it reduce as the battery reached full charge, till the point where it stopped charging and indicated full charge at the battery. I mounted my charger to the cargo barrier and it is easy to access and close to the portable battery pack to reduce loss. Mostly I will use my 150watt folding Solar Panel while we are camped, but I was concerned overcast days might leave me stranded, so the charger is the go. One caveat, the charger is not waterproof, which is fine for my install.

Im about to do this and now that Ive hacked the box under the passenger seat, I have a better idea on battery dimensions.

Here is the process. As the op, I used a rotary tool. So much space...

I will use a VSR as thats what Ive ordered for my budget. Quite simple to change over to DC-DC later down the track.

I will run the cables from the Start battery under the console instead of the engine bay terminals.

Will update as I progress..

The Quadra Lift battery normally resides in that space.
