I know its a different engine but my KJ CRD used nearly 2 litres by the time I had the 10,000km service. Between then and the 20k service it used about a litre. By the time I got to 40k it wasn't moving on the dipstick anymore. I agree that a lot of these new high performance diesels (and petrol engines) using very low viscosity oils need topping up until they are properly run-in.
