Default service 4wd then no 4wd

Hi all
Been a while since I was here with my CJ4 now at a new loving home
I now have a 2014 KL Trailhawk currently 220 thou kms

Have had the service 4wd or trans warning come up, as its a $275 charge for a laptop check at the local dealer went to a trans shop and they said I need a new CPU at $11K nil in NZ and delivery unknow
Its a 20k car on a good day
after Christmas went to use 4wd low warning said go to netural , did that and no lights at the button and no 4 low.

I did have the trans warranty upgrade done several months ago(still hate the shift)

tried Mr Google and on a usa page they were talking about a plug fretting issue or a sensor but they did not say where the plug/sensor was

does anyone here have any ideas as it was getting replaced in the next month or so as I'm a ute guy not a suv /car guy and need it fixed first.
Cheers
Warren

My daughters GC it once suffered random limp mode on the trans with a trans output speed sensor code. After various fix attempts with new sensor etc, I discovered the sensor plug sockets had fretted causing intermittent connection with road vibrations. After repairing the fretted plug problem has never re-occurred.

NZ$ 11K for ANYTHING sounds like crap to me!! You can get complete PTU from the USA for under $3000 including shipping (installation less than a day).

Even thru a dealer at full cost out of your pocket a PTU replacement shouldn't be more than $4000 and one day in the workshop and I think I'm being very pessimistic with that estimate.

A complete transmission shouldn't be much more than that.

And engine ecu, trans Ecu etc. are available for a few hundred $ each from various places...

Dead heads at mech shops will think only in terms of whats available in country (banjo playin, pig ----ing idiots) - here in Aus I was told by the Aus Bilstein dealers tha there weren't any Bilstein shocks available for the KL - got all 4 Bilstein shocks + strut mounts and spring seats delivered from USA in FOUR DAYS for under $1300 the lot including freight.

Local Aus Stealership quotes $45 each for those plastic clips on top of the front strut mounts - yes that's right FORTY FREAKIN FIVE DOLLARS EACH - they sell for about $3.00 each in the USA. Screw messing with aus or nz people for Jeep parts - just get onto USA suppliers - tho at the moment like everything else that's prolly a bit messed up with covid situation...
