The going price for a BA 6 cylinder is about $400, courtesy of Ebay, if that's inspiration enough for anyone.

Having both a EL Futura and an XJ, I am in love with 4.0L Straight Sixes.

However, excuse my ignorance.... Why is the Ford engine head bigger than the Powertech, if they are virtually the same capacity?

Does it have something to do with one being alloy and the other cast iron? What gives the Ford engine the extra power? Not that I am at all unhappy with the XJ grunt [given the 1.5 tonne weight of the car].

For the EL, the head is bigger because it's an OHC design - the Powertech head contains only the valves, since the camshaft is in the block. For the newer Falcons, i.e. BA and above, the head is even bigger due to its 4 valve per cylinder and DOHC design. This is also a big part of why the Falcon engines have so much more power than the Powertech engine.

The Falcon engines now have more sophisticated control systems as well, with stuff like dual independent variable valve timing, variable length intake manifold, more knock sensors (I think?), etc etc.

Indeed, I was thinking about that a few days ago...

I would think that the EEC-V system would be pretty self contained in the engine compartment, but I don't know how it'd integrate with the rest of the car. Or with that damnable beeping noise that Jeep seems to love so much...

My question is where does the engine loom end and the car's loom begin, and how do they join together?
