Overland now available!
Ended up givig up my Jeep and re-ordering. Managed to secure a diesel for Aug delivery (presumably a cancelled order). Anyway, it will have the wood we like and save on running costs over the HEMI.
Anyway, bright silver overland now available at Bayside, vic!

Hmm...
Entitled to your opinion of course, and no denying the sound of a V8 is better, however 14.1lt per 100km or 8.3 per 100km (combined) with only a 8c differential in fuel price here - I think there will be a saving somehow! As a combined figure, and given the driving we do, that's roughly 45% more efficient for around 5% in fuel cost.
Modern diesels don't smell and you'd be amazed at how quiet they are now also.
Interestingly, the diesel is only very marginally slower than the v8 from a 0 - 60mph perspective and is actually quicker in a 1km race with the same towing capacity.
You'd be surprised!

Well I can't speak for others, but I don't care about the cost of fuel, I have 7 cars all v8s, love the sound and power, diesels do smell and tap tap tap noise from the engine and the vibration that transfers through the car.
I have owned late model diesel cars in the past, great for the farm and the ozone, poor resale value.

I'm used to them I suppose, love the V8s too for sure, but fuel is a factor that can't be ignored for me, especially given the V8 economy vs. performance hasn't kept up with the European's, e.g. the likes of Audi's FSI and others which are showing incredible petrol economy and performance and far more power from smaller bore engines. I had a V8 Mustang in the UK and I loved the sound but 18mpg wasn't exactly fantastic!! Family members have Audi A8 TDIs - and they are incredibly quiet and have more acceleration that the equivalent petrol. They've come a long way, whatever my petrol head instincts tell me!
I agree there aren't as pleasant at idle but pretty good at all other times and the newer diesel appears to be particularly quiet. It's also undeniably good when off road and I figure a 4x4 isn't exactly designed to be a muscle car.
Also, I've found the diesel re-sale value higher from past experience and red book prices generally support it - i think there is growing demand and there will be as the price of fuel rises with growing demand.

I also have a CRD on order with a late July delivery. I was told about the wood and managed to see it up close when I tested in a Overland Hemi with every option.
The wood suits the car as it is real wood. If you do get the swapped wheels, you can get all different trim kits form ebay, like allow, cf and other woods.
As for CRD, you are nuts if you do not get it. It will be the easiest to modify as an piggyback will give you a 15%+ increase with better economy. 0-100 is rated at 8.2 sec, so I think the best choice.

But, on the flip side, the new CRD is far from a proven engine..... has a price premium, and sounds like shit.
I'm yet to be convinced.
CRD over a V6, for me yes, easily. But CRD over a V8?..., hmmmm, it's not so black and white for me.
