yepi have hurd of that 81kiwi gotta admit its a good tyre rim combo i think it looks good (:
just gotta be a tad carefull up the bush i plan on buying some bushwackers eventually once i get some coin (:

insurance i just said i do plan on getting a 2" lift and 33"tyres they said aslong as its all still road legal i can do it.
my tyres are roughly 17mms bigger than stock and ur alowed 50mms of lift and 25ms of tyre increse or 50 of tyre and 25 of lift so should be all legal thus no need for insurance to knock u back (:
quick edit bryce i dont think it matters but i could be wrong. anyone else shed some light on it? i mean how do they know a mechanic didnt do it? or did do it??

I agree with Josh, how can they prove who installed it. I have declared my rims and tires and they were happy to add them to my insurance all they wanted to know was price and size. They didn't ask about the lift but if you can order them from the dealer how can they have an issue.

I'm currently running 285/70R17 MTZs on the stock rim and looking at fitting new rims to increase the clearance. What backspace/offsets are people using with the aftermarket rims that they are fitting? And are you able to stay within the max allowable track increase of 50mm?

Hate to tell you Josh but they aren't legal - 50mm total increase in track on a solid axle vehicle (or one inch per side old school). Track is based on the centre of the wheel, which also happens to be the offset. So going from +48mm offset to -12 is an increase of 60mm track on each side, or 120mm total. So your wheel track is 70mm to wide to be legal sorry to say. Not to mention the fact they stick outside the guards! But hopefully you have that covered with some flare extensions.

So bottom line to keep within the strict letter of the law, the rims would need to be around +23mm offset maximum. Width can be legally up to 1.5x to stock size, but that wont fit with an increase of only 1in offset.

Heres a pic I modified a while ago as I found it much easier to understand!

The ideal 8in rim would be an 8in rim with a 5.5in backspace (+25mm offset). This only gives an extra 1/2 in clearance on the inside edge, but should be enough to clear the 285's. Over that, your not strictly legal no matter what.
