Well it depends on a couple of things.

What spec level, engine and transmission do you have?
e.g.
a sport petrol manual will more than likely have 3.21:1 diff ratios which will mean the JK will be a dog with 35's.
a Rubicon has 4.1:1 and you'll get away with it
a sport auto has 3.73:1 will cope due to the slush box but still won't perform at its best.
a CRD auto will cope better than the petrol
a CRD manual will either have 4.1(MY07) and 3.21 thereafter. Good torque but a dog with 35's. It'd put too much stress on the dual mass clutch.
IIRC the 12 has 3.73:1 for the CRD now.

Odds are to run 35's then you're up for some diff work.

G'day Craig, I've just been to my local tyre dealer to ask about ST-MAXX 285/70/R17s.

One question I had which he wasn't able to answer is - does the weight of the spare mean that you had to have a tyre carrier or will it fit on the rear door?

Thanks

JB

That's probably about the limit you want to put on the rear door. Plus, depending on what wheels you use, you may need to adjust/replace the bumpstops on the door.

My 285/70R17 Maxxis Bighorns fit the stock carrier & the only problem I had was when I backed into a tree trunk. (It went sideways at the bottom of the tyre height, so I couldn't see it through the back window and the other trees were a couple of meters further back. The bottom of the tyre hit the tree & cracked the carrier.)

Thats almost impossible to read!

However, I have read it before. Doesnt really say a lot, its more referring to replacing components with non-genuine ones that dont constitute a modification not requiring approval.

So an adjustable control arm that has different end types and can change the suspension geometry is considered a modification.
