Default Folding mirror woes

How can you stop the folding mirrors sounding like machine guns when they operate is it possible or are they screwed??

I would be interested in the cure for this to, as one of mine does it as well, it
started to do it after it was manually folded in one day

There is one for sale for $200 but I got mine replaced for $30 from the wreckers..

I replaced one from the wreckers for $50 I think and then took apart the old one to see why it clicked so bad. Well, I could not identify the issue. The mirror mechanism is very tight and pretty complex. Fixing it in the home garage might not be cost efficient. Swapping it is much simpler and more obtainable option.

You can infact disassemble the mirrors, it's pretty finicky but it is doable!

I found the little gears strip out, and found a source for replacements on ebay:
