Default Glow Plug Wiring - XJ 2.5TD

I'm in the process of replacing my glow plugs and noted that two of the boots have broken (one I did trying to fit a NKG glow plug..don't go there). I think they may be brittle from the engine heat after 100K kms. Although they still connect I wanted to know if anybody has gone down this road before.

I spoke with Jeep and they are asking about $350 for the wiring loom (with the boots attached I think).

Cheers.

I've got 200K's on mine and they havent gone brittle. See if you can contact VM - the manufacturers of the engine. Search around here (XJ TD parts thread has a link i think), you might get a better (cheaper) deal from them rather than from Jeep. Or try one of the Jeep wreckers (Jeeeparts etc) for a second hand deal.

Thanks for the suggestions, most appreciated.
I put a new set of Bosch plugs in today, so should help with the cold starts. All 4 wiring lead boots have the same issue (brittle), but atleast are functional. I'll look around.

Cheers.

I know I am reviving a VERY old thread here but am facing the same issue and for the life of me cannot find a in good enough shape glow plug harness. My 2.5TD has 209k km on it and all of the plastic connectors have broken, although can still be attached. Does anyone know if there are any aftermarket wiring harnesses that could be used? Thanks!

As long as the metal parts are intact all is ok. I have used silicone to repair broken sections in the plastic elbow bit. The plastic tube that clips to the GP doesnt have to be there for them to work. The main thing is for the metal to make good contact. I am not aware of an after market loom.

you are 100% right its just that I don't like having broken parts under the hood. Its a mental thing. My XJ is my baby and I like to take care of it make it look nice if that makes sense
