Ive got your 95 setup Sobek, and while my XJ is running flawless now, i did have a lot of vacuum issues. I just kept replacing everything that came off the intake with new blue silicon hose and all new elbows etc. Made a world of difference. These 4.0 jeeps are very sensitive to vacuum changes.
Glad you sorted it. A 26 year old evap system is bound to fail somewhere. Rip it off and leave it off i say. Do your have yearly checks in your state? WA doesn't, so we could rip it out and leave it out (unless we get a yellow sticker/defect notice). But pretty sure no one would every know it was ever part of the Jeep if its gone.

Glad you finally have all the small bugs ironed out. Its just persistence with these donks. If your like me, once its running smooth again, it stays that way. Mine has been my DD for ages now and just keeps getting better at 333,000 kms...

Cheers,

I would hook up a mechanical vacuum gauge

They actually show weird engine results, and will identify a vacuum issue
by plugging and unplugging vacuum lines

forget about OBD digital vacuum readings, almost useless

there are no electrical components
there is a spring and a diaphragm under the black cap of the charcoal canister, the diaphragm is prolly torn. cap pulls straight off just get yr fingers under the lip. avoid putting pressure on the vac hose nipple, and be ready for the spring to .....spring.
