Default 05 CRD WH Grand Cherokeem-puff of smoke

All
My 05 CRD WH with the Merc 3.0 V6 diesel emits a puff of diesel smelling smoke on a cold start up. Is this normal? Emits no smoke once warm and it seems to be only on a startup from cold. Car has low kms 65000km.

Any thoughts.

How long does it take to start? If it's cold and it cranks for a few seconds before firing then a puff is normal as the excess fuel clears. If this is the case (are you are waiting for the glow plug light to extinguish before starting?) then it could be indicative of a glow plug issue.

I agree with hills46's comments but in addition - its completely normal, dont stress.

Even if your Glow Plugs are in fine working order, it can emit the puff.

Second to that, you probably need to take it for a good flogging to heat up the CAT properly as it may be a little sooty. Running on the Freeway doesnt do squat in a vehicle to raise Exhaust temps to a point where the CAT starts to burn effectivley.

Take her for a good caining and where possible, put a trailer on to give her some load
