Some closure on this one - Its registered
Things we have learnt along the way:
All CJs leak
The only piece of the steering that you cant import from the US is the passengers side tie rod - the long one. Fixes include getting a good second hand unit (thanks Jeep City), Modifying the old one by purchasing a short tie rod and an adjuster sleeve and cutting the end off and threading the rod to accept a new short tie rod (probably the best engineering solution) or drilling out the taper for the drag link and inserting one that faces the opposite direction.
Just because single cardan front driveshafts from a CJ7 fit a CJ10 it does not mean it is a good idea.
Conwire in Milperra NSW can make new handbrake cables to your specification at a reasonable price and have the designs for the cables from the rear drums to the inside chassis rails on file.
If you have a CJ10 and you haven't done so drop the fuel tank and clean out the 40 years of crap from the chassis rail before it rusts out.
It was entirely possible in 1983 for a compliance plate to have the wrong year digit stamped on it that id different to the chassis stamping and the plate on the top of the dash. That took a bit of sorting out with the RTA particularly since a previous owner had decided to stamp a number that matched the compliance plate on the chassis.
Still lots of work to go but its all much easier when you can drive it on the road.
