As for the Toyotas, he's never stepped "up" to a Toyota CRD engine and only a couple of years ago bought a 100 series Turbo diesel, lowest km in the country with 68,000km on it. Nice car, but kept his 400,000km 80 just in case the 100 broke down!
Yes, the Nissan 3.0 is a time bomb too, and isn't that a way to get under the skin of a Patrol owner!
I'm content now after doing some research. Apparently Mercs have a thing called "black death" caused by a leaking copper O ring under the injector, but I can't see any evidence of it on mine.

The 100 series had probably Toyota's best diesel in there as far as performance/reliability went, Very hard vehicle to move away to something else IMO however mine will be changes for a WH or a wk2 at some stage next year.

im nearing on 190 thou, and at this stage im still all good, but i do use a range on cleaners from a mob called Cost effective maintenance. and i do feel the products really work as i have noticed a change in the way it runs.
Also there are stories on their website about when you think your injectors are stuffed people have used the products and then end up with back to normal running results. I do recommend these guys and their products.

Hello all
When I read roberts post re the fuel injectors I was going to suggest CEM products as well. I used them on my Jeep which I sold at about 250K and I must say that engine ran like a clock. I also used the engine cleaner product as well and was very impressed by how clean the engine stayed afterwards.
I now use CEM in my 79 series cruiser with the same great results. Its expensive but so are fuel injectors to replace -
Yes I am jeepless at the moment - and consequently suffering jeep separation disorder _lol
I am hoping a new jeep along the lines of the J20 will become available one day - thats what I want
Happy trails
