Yeah they leak in the the compartment under the plastic cover at the base of the window. Espcially badly if you park on a hill with the car sloping backwards. Mine filled up about 2L once.
It comes into the cabin through the (aircon?) hole that is above the passengers footwell.
As you've done, remove the gunk. Make sure you clean the small drain hole which is located where the two pieces of metal join.
It was a bit enthusiastic, but I also drilled a bigger drain hole and haven't had any problems since.
Use diluted demestos to clean the carpet, remove it, clean then hang it up.. makes you're car smell new again!
