Default JK 4dr V Defender 110

Hi All,

This may seem a strange question to post of the jeep forum, however, I'm in the mist of purchasing another 4x4, and I;m considering a 4dr wrangler (diesel) or the newer defender.

My initial reasoning is fairly straight forward... both vehicles have a long repuation for being very capable as standard vehicles. the only mild mods i would be looking at are a front bar of some sort ot accomodate a winch, mud treads, side steps etc... no suspension work or anything.

Has anyone been through this same choice?? anyone had experience with both of them.

In the past I have had a couple of cherokees, with one being unstoppable through plenty of mods, and an 80 series set up for touring.

the wrangler on the surface looks to present great value for money. It would mainly be set up for touring and the diesel is a must.

like I said if anyone has driven/owned both, let me know your thoughts.
thanks
Dale

mate i have owned both jeep and landrover (defender) even had series 2 and 2a landrovers. they are a very spartan (hose out the dirt) type vehicle and very capable.have a hard top so can fit a roof rack and for long distance extreme outback work are excellent. if you want to do lots of beach work and mainly running round town and rock crawling stuff go the wrangler (medium wheelbase and easier to park.) horses for courses stuff. depends on what you want it for. this is a jeep site but this is an unbiased opnion.

I looked at this comparison too. On paper at least, the Jeep looks better:
JK unlimited CRD + renegade pack $41.5k vs LR Defender 110 $48.5k

Seven grand would buy a lot of camping gear (or diesel)... or how many extra days off could you take 4WDing to match the saving?

They're both eminently capable and legendary vehicles with a bit more room in the Landie. In the end I decided that for the extra gear carrying on family camps four times a year (usually to easily accessible spots), I could just beg, borrow or hire a trailer. Most of my trips are light, fast solo overnighters rather than expeditions so the 2dr got the nod. If the LR 90 was available new it could have tempted me (at around the $45k mark).

I found the different marketting approaches interesting, too. All depends on whether you wear khakis and an Akubra or jeans and a baseball cap. A head-to-head comparo in a magazine would make for interesting reading.

I looked into this myself quite thoroughly.

Simple answer. JK 4 door Jeep any day, hence why I got one.

Price vs features vs ride comfort vs build quality vs performance...the Jeep beats it in all categories.
