Another Trailer Build up
Hi guys, I thought that I would share with you the mods and transformation of the trailer we bought about 18 months ago.
It is a 7x4 deepside that came with the obligatory landcruiser stud pattern wheels with 31-10.5-15's on it. It also had a steel framed canvas canopy on it that stuck up higher than the top of the xj. It had a kitchen that attaches to the side which was excellent when camping as it was under the cover of the side opening of the canopy.
And then came the mods, firstly the wheels had to go which meant the hubs needed changing, so on went a pair of ford hubs and a pair of xj rims.
First problem, the guards now protude past the tyres by about 70mm each side and my trailer storage area has an access size limit of 1780mm with the original guards the trailer was 1890mm wide. Solution, 9inch grinder and a cut off wheel.
Second problem, at night with the canopy I can't see where I am reversing, so solution, reversing lights.

Then, never being content to sit too idle I decided to add some brakes to the trailer using Eb v8 rear rotors and cable operated trailer calipers opreated by an over rider coupling. Dramas occured when I discovered that the Falcon rotors are larger than trailer rotors so the weld-ons weren't big enough so I had to improvise!!!!!
Then I found that the Falcon rotors are designed to be located by bosses on the end of the axles, the trailer hubs use a lot smaller boss so I had to align the rotor manually then bolt the rotors on....

After a couple of trips it was decided to ditch the tent and put a camper top on which would result in much less drag as the top would be below the roofline of the xj.
