Default SLR flash

I am thinking about buying an external flash for my nikon and came across some cheapies on eBay. Will these do the job or are they rubbish? 600+ bucks just seems alot for a flash, is there any other options?

I shoot Nikon D700+MB D10 grip with 70-200VR f/2.8, 24-70G f/2.8, 85 f/1.4 and 50 f/1.4.
Yes they are cheap rubbush that will burn out the tube in no time flat.
On the few occasions that I am shooting with my external flash I use either my SB-800 bounced into a reflector remotely with either my SU-800 from my R1C1 kit or the built in flash as the commander.
99% of what I shoot is available light stuff so I can be very picky to what flash I use. Try Nikon on Broadway or European Camera Specialist in Sydney for a SB-900 at a great price and warranty.

Because I am a poor-arse, I have bought a few YongNuo external flashes that I use with my Canon 350D.
I have the YN-468, with TTL, and a YN-460II for stand/throw on ground use as a slave.

Evaluated against the Canon genuines, and correct, they are not as good. Maybe about 70%, however they are a lot cheaper.
Also, if I can get enough in the photography budget for some genuine stuff, these are good for cheap slaves that I don't have to be precious about.

I have used sigma before, not bad, but limiting in functions. The SB flashes (Nikon) are the way to go. Look on EBAY UK if you need, there are some deals over there! I think I got my SB80 for about 50GBP. Hasn't given up since, though I'd like an external battery pack for it.
