Default Alloy Wheels and Wheeling

I see a lot of you guys have alloys yet I was thinking steels would be better for wheeling, is there much of an issue with damage with the alloys?

Depends. I scratched two last weekend bogged in the mud... But, it is a 4wd, not a Skyline!!!

They are better being lighter than steels, having said that you just need to accept they are going to get scratched up.

They will crack more easily too but thats only an issue if youre doing jumps and sliding into rocks, just need to be more wary of how you do your wheeling.

Not sure if aluminium or steel rims are necessarily better than the other.
It's a bit like the petrol/diesel or auto/manual debate - both are clearly different but is one better ?
If one was clearly better than the other, the other wouldn't even exist because no-one would use it.
Sorry, not trying to be an a$$, just sayin.

I'd be happy with steel rims or aluminium rims - currently running ally because they were the same price as the steelies I wanted and looked twice as expensive

Yes the allys get chewed up on the rocks but it's superficial.
And the allys will sustain much greater hits than the steelies - until they break of course but the sort of impact needed to break an ally wouldn't exactly do a steely any favours either.
Don't see too many comp rigs running steelies either.

I don't see anything in your reply that puts you in the a$$ category wes, these are the types of roles I was hoping for, also agree with the weight opinion Beat. I prefer alloys but being new to 4wd's I knew it would be good to hear from those with experience.
