How many staked side walls do you see in a comp situation. Very few because no one runs road biased weak sidewall tyres
Like I said I would probably get flamed. Since I only offroad in remote areas where I get out and see the country I can't speak for comp situations. However I would assume they don't have sticks buried in mud like is often the case when driving on tracks that are out in the bush. Comps I would assume do a lot of rock crawling or mud work on tested race tracks therefore are less likely to push a stick through the sidewall. BTW I wasn't posting to create a big argument just offering up something that may not have been considered.

In the big scheme of things; not being able to get the same brand/model tyre to replace a stacked tyre, is crying over spilt milk.
Get a tyre which performs better offroad so you dont need to hit stuff with as much momentum and enable safer line selection (reduced chance of putting a wheel in a stupid spot).

Just to add fuel to the fire..

Silverstone MT's come in all sizes and range from $260-300 per tire, i went into Ian Diffans and told them i saw them on gumtree going at this price, they called silverstone and got the same deal!

It was a win win situation for all! they have heavy sidewalls and shred mud and sand much better then my BFG MT and Wranger AT tires!

AG, you have a point worth noting but it isn't a determine factor for me. If I were going on a super remote trip I would take two spares anyway and sourcing it would be part of the preparation.

I haven't seen the Silverstones. I will check them out now.

Cool sounds like you will get it sussed. BTW thanks for not shooting down my reply. Like you suggested I just wanted to add something that may not have been considered.

These are Silverstone muddies. They are a simex copy/competitor and as you can imagine quite rubbish on road, in the wet or on rock.

Would love these as a second set, dont know if I could live with them fulltime.

I used to run these on my old 4be, awesome offroad tyres and bloody cheap!! When I couldn't be bothered swapping back the day after wheeling, I would just run them for a max week, weren't that bad on the road. I wouldn't run them as a daily because it would be a waste.

Sucks that they don't make tyres for a 17" wheel
