Unhappy HELP!! Oil Issues- 4.7 WJ

Hi all

I have just changed the oil in my car (155,000ks). When I took the oil filler cap off, I noticed crusty (I assume) oil based stuff lining the inside of the cap - as well as the filler area the cap screws onto.

What on earth would have caused this to happen? What do I need to do to get rid of the crusty stuff? Would it be through the whole engine???

I have only had the car 6 months, and the car has had FSH, but I am surprised at the situation as I am sure it hasn't happened in the last 6 months.

Any wisdom would be valued.

Thanks heaps

Regards

Yeah I get the same thing, I religiously do oil changes at 6k, Im sure I've cleaned it off before can't remember how, I just assumed it was some sort of oil vapour residue, so I wouldn't panic, but your point about the rest of the motor has me thinking. Thanks!?!

This is a common thing on the 4.7 nothing to stress about there is a TSB on this on how to fix the problem.

http://www.wjjeeps.com/tsb/tsb_wj_090100a.pdf

I actually bought the parts and installed them but it does not fix it much.

Every 60k i just take the housing off the block and clean it with brake parts cleaner.
