At my previous service(60,000km), the dealer ship (I will keep them nameless at this stage) said that the issue is with the oil and it needs to be changed
Quick test to eliminate at-least one possibility; with the car running and in gear, hold the brake and accelerate, to "simulate" high load without letting the car move at all. ie, everything is under torque but the diff isn't moving.

I had a grinding noise not long after I bought the WH (2nd-hand.), had a Jeep stealer look at it as I was a bit scared to work on it myself at-first.
After a test-drive, they told me the front diff needed to be inspected and probably rebuilt $$$.

Turned out to be the cat rubbing on a bent bash plate .
Sounds very unlikely in your case (especially if the oil change worked for 8Kkm); but still never underestimate the stupidity of some of these clowns.

I understand that consumer law says they have to prove that it is the change in tyres causing the problem, and not just say it is. And even so if the problem was evident before the tyre change, then wtf???

I agree with Clarky and go and see them, but also start putting everything in writing with dates and kms, etc. A well documented history is important in case this ends up dragging out.

Yup. We have pretty good consumer protection in aus; much more/better rights than most people are aware of.

@pmac; LOL. He was ok, just a few scuffs

Hi All,
Just a quick update. Finally had the opportunity to get the car to the dealer. We have not had the chance to get it there. They opend the workshop on Saturday just to see us.

We managed to get the car to produce the noise within 30sec of the service mgr and tech being in the car. As soon as this happened, they said to take it back to the workshop.

They kept the car for about 1hr, hoisted it up, applied the trusty old laptop and took for a couple of more drives. Every time the same noise could be made. Thank you James for your suggestion to 'heal and toe' the car to simulate the load - this worked a treat.

Straight away they have given me a new loan car (free of charge) and believe i have either a broken transmission or a broken transfer case or both. Either way it is now a warrantee claim and they feel this should be sorted relatively quickly. I am happy with there response today to it and will see what happens from now. At least they have accepted liability and realise it has nothing to do with tyres/brakes/suspension.

Thank you to all for your words of advise. When i know more, i will let you know.
Paul
