Question 265/70/17 with a 2" lift

Hi all,

I'm currently running Yokohama Geolander AT-S in a 245/70/17 and I'm thinking of getting some muddies as I have a spare set of rims floating about.

As the 245/70/17 is the largest size that will fit in the wheel well, yet there isn't a huge range of quality muddies in that size, I was thinking of throwing the spare on the roof if I went with a 265/70/17.

They would be going on either the standard "snowflake" 17" rims or swapping them for my JK rims.

Question is what's the situation with rubbing on suspension or steering components if they go on the standard WJ 17" rims?

The lift is a Dobinsons coils with Bilstein 5100 shocks. I also replaced the spring isolators so the height is closer to 2.5" at least.

I'm looking at either KM2's in a 245/70/17 or M/T MTZ in a 265/70/17. I can also get soome 2nd hand pro comps in the 265/70/17 but only 4 of them for $100 each.
Thoughts?

I'm running 265's on JK rims with a 6mm spacer with a Stu 2.5" lift and there is no rubbing on front arms but a little on the edge of the ARB bar so you will possibly get some on the front bumper unless the wheel arch curve just misses. The ARB bar is straight there and rubs in the middle of the flat. Also getting some little rubbing on the front of the plastic wheel well liner.

These are no big deals but your bigger issue Timbo may be with the 5100's. On the rear I was getting a small amount of rubbing on the top cover of the ARB shocks which use a solid steel sleeve. It's not too bad but I was going to cut the steel sleeve off and replace with a shock boot to make sure the rub does not side load the shock shaft and damage it. With the rear Billies mounted upside down you won't have that luxury so not sure if it would cause you grief. If you can mount the bottom mount in further it might help but I've seen the Rocky Road relocator and not sure if it puts too much pressure on the top shock mount.

Should also say this all was the case before I did anything about bump stop spacers and I haven't been able to test since making some up. Rear bump spacers may be able to address the issue depending on the trade off with up travel.

Excellent Fester, thank you very much.
I'm going to stick with the 245/70/17 size , (no rubbing that way), so it look's like the ATO are buying me a set of KM2's!

Even though I have the space, compressor, rattle gun and trolly jack, I have a tyre shop around corner from me at work who will swap the tyres over after work Friday and again Monday's for a 6 pack! What a deal.

Default 265/70/17 with a 2" lift

Personally 265's are perfect for 2", minimum trimming. With the correct offset wheels.
