Default Auto Trans Bolts

Can anyone tell me what the 4 bolts on the bottom of the side of the transmission are for?

The ones marked "2" in this diagram:

They appear to plug holes into the internals of the transmission itself but don't appear to be holding anything together as such.

The reason I ask is that my front tail-shaft broke free while on a trail and as the shaft flung off it struck the most prominent of these bolts (third from the left) and smashed it clean out of the block taking a chunk of the case above it with it. Trans fluid poured out the hole but with a bit of bush mechanicing we were able to remove the tail-shaft and plug the hole in order to limp back home. I'm now trying to work out what to do to fix it properly but I have no idea what the purpose of that bolt was originally. Anyone know, and anyone know what options I have to fix it? Do I just need to find a way to plug the hole permanently?

Thanks,
Slarti.

Yes. They access the clutch pack galleries.
That is why one of the sump pan bolts has sealant on it, because it intersects one of them.
