Hey folks! My latest purchase is a 2000 XJ Classic which I'm in the process of getting a RWC.
The item I'm stuck on is vertical movement of the steering wheel.
It seems to vary depending on which tilt position you select, but is about half a cm at its worst.
Today I ripped off the covers and the knee guard, and had a look under there while moving the wheel up and down. What was interesting is that the entire cast aluminium panel seemed to be moving slightly with the wheel - like it was flexing. This coupled with seemingly normal amount of motion in the tilt adjust mechanism seemed to result in the amount of vertical slop I'm seeing.
Thanks mate! So I've seen a couple threads referring to these infamous screws but I wasnt sure if they were relevant to the update cherokees. I'll have to look at mine more closely and see if I can connect the dots
