Vehicle now has 255,000 k,s on the clock and has never gone better also blows no smoke only on very hard acceleration oh
I also use 3.2 ml per litre fuel of TC-W3 oil in the fuel this OM642 engine is going to see a million k,s in my hands

Modern European diesels don't have egr valves they inject urea into the exhaust system to burn the soot Mercedes call it add blue and Citroen call it eolys fluid

If you like the WH and intend on keeping it get rid of the EGR and fit a provent and Kn panel use the GDE tune to switch of the EGR and remap the engine
you will be very happy not only that much better driveability and better economy
I would say my gde tune plus provent and kn,panel will be paid for by the time I do 300,000 k,s in fuel savings
Doc, where did you get the Wynns EGR.

If you are in Queensland I get it from my oil guy up here on the Gold coast
I can give you his number just private message me

I have a few cars and bikes and other motorised products all with large sump capacity's

I buy my oil in bulk the guy I buy it from is also a Wynns distributor

I just get him to get me a few cans every now and then when you buy the stuff make sure you get the applicator as well its basically a spray tip with a really long hard plastic tube which sprays the cleaner like a garden hose that,s been adjusted for wide spraying works a treat

With the WH it was a bit harder to do I just sprayed it in the crankcase breather hole on the inlet side of the turbo not ideal

I am going to make an adapter that allows me to spray it into the manifold after the turbo and inter-cooler closer to the manifold only

I also ultrasonically cleaned my inter-cooler as well

I poured a litre of oil out of the intercooler just shows how important fitting a provent or real catch can is

I did a lot of research on crankcase blow by in diesels and its just as big a problem as EGR fix these 2 problems and your engine will love you for it so will your pocket

Does anyone know where in the intake system the EGR valve dumps its contents when open? Does it dump into the intake side of the turbo itself, into the suction part of the intake or the pressure part of the intake? Ive noticed a SS pipe that runs from the back of the engine somewhere and connected into the upstream end of the intake near the MAF.

If it dumps into the suction side my theory is that an EGR "delete" could be as as easy as disconnecting exhaust feed to the EGR, blanking the exhaust manifold and installing a PCV breather type filter with some hose to the inlet side of the EGR valve housing. EGR valve opens, pulls fresh clean cold air into the intake and the MAF still sees a volume change, therefore not throwing any codes.

Plausible?

If it is like the WJ the ECU looks for a change in inlet air volume (reduces when EGR is open) to make sure the EGR is working.

That's right and this is based on the fact that the EGR gases are reintroduced directly into the inlet mainfold which of course is downstream of the MAF.

don't mean to burst your bubble but there are some very cluey independant MB mechanics on the UK Mb forums and if there was a simple non electronic blanking means to disable the EGR they would have done it already. There was a guy playing with a similar principal on the MB forum for the 2.7 and it proved to be far more problematic to develop than the electrical methods.

I think you need to confirm the negative and positive pressures located at the places you are injecting fresh air. For example, the EGR input in your first picture is under pressure from the exhaust system. The EGR output in your second picture is also under pressure to inject the exhaust gas into the charge air side of the intercooler which in itself is under up to 20lbs of boost.

After revisiting this here, overseas Jeep and OM642 mecedes forums.
Combined with Wynns attitude here to only supply EGR cleaner direct to select mechanics. Surprisingly 2-3 yr apprentice diesel mechanics are having trouble getting it.

My opinion at present is the green tune from CRDSTU is the only option to EGR delete.....$1000.00 that will probably pay for itself in fuel savings in a year or two, not a bad deal combined with more power!
VS
A Wynns EGR clean, mechanics at $150-$200 on going with no real guarantee it has cleaned everything out.

But then with a provent filter there is no oil sticky stuff going into the inlet manifold just dry soot, I don't see my exhaust pipe clogging up with goo.

I wonder if there really is a problem with a provent filter installed?
When we do hear of problems...Do they have provent filters installed?
