JeepBoy,
Its common amongst most diesel engine manufacturers to have several head gasket thicknesses. Certainly not a VM thing. But, like you, I'm unsure why its done (maybe some production variances??)
Cheers

Finally got the KJ back today.

New glow plugs, new harness, new head gasket, lots of new gaskets in fact, new timing belt, new water pump, new serpentine belt, new coolant, new engine oil, etc etc.
my wallet is also a lot lighter as well!

My advice to any of you thinking of removing glow plugs yourself, it's not for the faint hearted. Especially if you still have the ceramic plugs like I did.

The etc warning light has recently started flashing on ours, goes away once warm and restarted apart from the flashing light you wouldn't know it had an issue. I was contemplating changing them myself after reading this not do sure now. If i did get a mechanic to do it and something like this happened at the workshop, who would have to foot the bill, the owner or the mechanic?

Its not that bad, I did all mine myself and had no problems (apart from getting to them, needing gaskets that were out of stock, getting the right sockets, cutting my hands to shreds and the back pain... )..
I soaked them in WD before I attempted to remove them - none broke....
