Default Rear sway bar

G'day

After some opinions on the rear sway bar.

After a few months and some work on different issues, got the XJ running again. Driving I again notice how bumpy and wallowing (by lack of better word) the ride is.

I have the sport that came from factory with a 1" lift and replaced the rear springs some time ago with new OME leafsprings. Not a lot of milage on them so far. But it sits a bit higher than before in the rear.

I noticed I don't have the rear sway bar and I believe with the towing package that was removed (as I understand from US forums).

I know many have the opinion that you can go without, but I was wondering if that might reduce the swaying a bit that I experience.

What would be some ideas to improve the ride? Stiffer shocks? Put in a rear sway bar?

Thanks for your ideas

I would reinstall a rear sway bar.

Hey Roler, I,ve tried a few sets of shocks, I think the best are stock JK shocks. The fronts I call perfect, better than the bilstiens I had. The rears you can feel some bumps a little but certainly not uncomfortable, I think that's because the jk is coils on the rear, so stiffer than a shock for leaf spring rear. There's a bit of mucking around to fit them, have to put bar pins in the top of rears, and might have been bottom of fronts, not sure about the last bit, too long ago. The JK shocks compressed length was a little longer than stock, some have said needed extra bump stop. I cut the ends off a rubber mallet to sikaflex onto the pad inside the front coils but never fitted them because it didn't really need them and I was just too lazy. I also fitted a rear sway bar but didn't notice a big improvement, just a small one. You may need longer u-bolts to fit the rear bar, depends how much extra thread you have now.

I ripped my rear sway bar off years ago from my Limited when i did a lift. I don't get any sway at all. Front would be a different story and i don't think anyone runs without that one.
I have RS5000 Rancho shocks, 5" lift and airbags with Rubicon springs that have extra leafs added and longer shackles. Bit of a mix, but it all seems to work well with no roll or sway.

Cheers,
