BFG AT's are shit, slippery as hell on wet bitumen. BTW your right stacks of thread on tyres. Have a search first then if you need more help people will happily give you some tyre advice.

I know people who say the same about BFG ATs and Coopers.

I've go the Geolanders and they are wearing well, and grip well. They do have a soft sidewall but I think I ended up with imports which aren't as good as the product made for Oz.

I'd look at the Maxis Bravo, not as aggresive but seem to be more durable and also cheaper. They also grip well in the wet too which is always a good thing.

No expert but just to add another brand to the mix... Im getting Falken Wildpeak AT 31s put on my XJ tomorrow. I was in the warehouse checking them out today and they look tough as.

Check em out - they get good reviews, look aggressive, and I dont think they are too expensive (Im getting a deal through a friend so Im not sure on retail price) - And they do come in that size.

TBH I would never go Maxxis AT's again they might grip better than BFGs but I locked my wheels up like 14 times in the two years I ran them. I have locked them up on dry bitumen going only 50kph ad nearly rear ended a vehicle. In the wet I locked them up at 100kph and skidded for 30m before hitting a roo, causing over 3k damage. The only good thing I found with them was it taught me how to steer a Jeep with the brakes locked. In the end I became quite good at it. I learnt to use my foot like an ABS pump. The other thing is I only got about 45-50k out of the set. Dollar per km is about the same a decent brand like Yoko's or Toyos.

Check out my Ride(s)

Just bought a set Pirelli Scorpion ATR's @ $255 each. One was faulty so it was replaced no hassles from Jax tyres Ballarat. It will be interesting to see how they go. Seem quiet on bitumen which was what I was worried about when deciding to change to ATR's.
Keep you posted after my trip Qld next month.

Hey crdv6, I had the Pirelli ATR's on my Disco 4. Great tyre on the road and not too bad off road, despite the look of the tread.
Had BFG's and not a big fan, especially on a wet road.
Had Cooper LTZ's. Great tyre on road and exceptional off road considering they are an AT tyre. Only gripe with them is the humming noise on the open road.
Now have Cooper AT3's on the Jeep and are very happy. Very quiet on the road with exceptional grip in dry & wet, and awesome off road......for an AT tyre.
They are at the upper end of the price range, but hey, you get what you pay for. I went for the LT construction that come with a 90,000 Klm guarantee. If you weigh up how much life you get out of the tyres, it then makes the purchase price mid field.

Cheers, Craig
