Default "Pod" Camper Trailers

Hi All,

I'm a bit over pitching tents, and am planning on picking up a Camper Trailer of some sort in the next 2-3 months, and thought I'd see if anyone on here had any recommendations.

I'm after something with solid body (no canvas), but essentially just a lightweight box with a full size, comfy bed in it. The one I like the most so far is the Jayco J-Pod:

http://www.jayco.com.au/range/j-pod/j-pod-detail/

It's a brand new model and about $9500, which is pretty much the absolute max I'd want to spend. I'd be pretty happy with something similar but 2nd hand/cheaper. Does anybody know if there's anything out there along those lines? I know there's a lot of teardrop models around, but the bed and ceiling heights on most of those seem to be pretty confined.

Any input appreciated!

Thanks

Luke

I'm selling my homemade teardrop shortly, just giving it a freshen up, looking at around 3K. Serves me well for the last 7 years. It's bigger than a typical teardrop and can take an awning and rooftop tent. Also come with a 200W solar panel and 12v power with LED lighting etc. Would be a good one to customise to your requirements (paint etc)

Cheers
Steve

You appear to want a caravan without the problems & limitations that they have (off road). A camper trailer is not for you if you dont want canvas. They are basically a tent on a trailer.
I have a ~ 40 year old pop up. It has a solid roof & floor & what your suggested one has, yet has much more room & windows. I dont have the annex (overgrown tent) that they came with. I have a number of tarps that can be attached but I have never used them.
I see they offer a tent attachment & I suspect unless you like confinement it would be necessary.
I would suggest you have a look at a swan or dove & see if the concept fits.
Please dont see my comments as in any way negative. I to initially had the same idea as you & did plenty of looking at what other 4wd owners had.

Hi Steve,

That's a great little teardrop - but I'm leaning towards the idea of something with the big rear door like the Jayco - thinking it would be handy to double as a trailer for moving furniture/etc.

Hi layback,

Thanks for your thoughts, but I'm pretty set on a basic Pod-type camper. I don't see us spending any time at all in it except to sleep, so don't need the features that a bigger van/camper offers. Storage space at home is also fairly tight, and I'm a fan of something that offers next to no setup time and weighs very little.
