Hi

I towed 20 foot van ATM about 2900kg with my 2006 WH 3.0 CRD
Depending on how much towing, I emptied the catch can once sometimes twice between services,?

I now tow the same van behind 79 series, it has a catch can as well and its about the same oil consumption? Noticeably more when towing on both vehicles.

Hope that helps?

Happy Trails

I did have noticeable oil consumption on my last holiday towing a 2T Jayco pop top to Alice springs and back (about 5000km). I didn't need to top up any but the oil light flickered on once on a big hill on the way home where the engine temp hit 3/4.

I was using Valvoline I think. Changed oil when I got home and its been fine since.

I am towing a Jayco journey out bac poptop.up in nth central qld.32c plus long uphill straights.Plus I do not pussy around.Reading the dip stick is a nightmare.one minute it reads nothing, then half, left it overnight it then read over,.Using Penrite 5w40 eco full synthetic .I now see on Penrites in shop push button selector that our motor takes 8.5l they used to say 9.5 mine all ways seemed over full at 9.5

I find I get a consistant reading by pulling the dipstick out, waiting a minute then check the level. It's like you let the presure out or something.

With filter I use around 9L on a change.
No DPF so I use Penrite HPR 5 5W-40 full synthetic (full zink) now.

Fun thing is I thourght 08 and up had DPF's but my 09 parts jeep has no DPF.

I never had any problems with dipstick readings on my WH but the WK is less reliable.
As for oil consumption, neither use much, maybe add 300-500 ml after 10k
(Due for a change anyway)

It appears the only way for me to get a reliable oil level reading in the WH is to leave overnight on level ground.Otherwise readings range from near empty to half full after 5 minutes.Used around 300 mill in 4500 ks, (most appears caught in Provent) towing Jayco Journey Outback around Central Qld and down the coast at 100kph in sometimes 30c + temp.
