Tried to get insurance with Allianz on a 11 year old work ute.
They asked if it had any damage. I was honest and said it had a small dent on the top of the guard and a small dent in the roof. (previous owner had a pipe on the rack, and the newbie apprentice thought he'd lift it off with a forlift, but it rolled off and whacked the ute). Allianz insisted that I get a quote from a panel beater, then refused to insure unless I had the dents repaired. (quote was $350, so not big dents!) I said it was a work vehicle, not a show pony. They didn't care. I went to SGIO. Never looked back.

AAMI insure the KJ, though for 30% less than any other quote we got.

1 would have thought, if the vehicle complies with Police/Dept of Motor Vehicles/Transport regs, insurance company shouldn't have an issue?

Thats bizarre. Normally they would just put on a note of existing damage with pics and in any future claims that damage would be excluded.

I tried Allianz a bit over 12months ago when I first got my WH with 2" lift. As I recall it they told me they couldn't insure 4wd's with any suspension mods. Am with Suncorp for now just because they have most my other stuff. Should prob try Shannons - I have my Valiant with them, good premium and they were really good at settling on an agreed value.

We had problems with alliance a few years ago with a minor accident and they wanted to almost double our next years premium. We soon changed to NRMA and never looked back

Thanks guys for your input.
Signed up with Affinity Insurance brokers now (CGU underwritten).
Cost me $40 more than the Allianz but have now additional $3000 camping gear cover build in and a few more little extras which Allianz didn't have.
The KJ is insured for market value with $7000 of extras (lift kit, bull bar and and and). Insured on any track/place anywhere in oz. Total annual cost $1071.00. Plus they didn't blink at the 2.75 inch lift kit and the bigger tires.

The new rules re lift height do not apply retrospectively if you got your lift under the old rules. Of course dfferent states may have different rules, but in NSW there is no retrospective violation. I have a 3" lift, done in 2008, which was legal in NSW at the time without engineering approval required. All you needed to do was keep your receipt to prove the install date was prior to rule changes. I had this confirmed by the NSW RTA. At that time engineering was required for lifts of 4". Now I believe 4" is illegal regardless as no engineer can approve it., at least in NSW. You can always argue you lift has sagged as most do over time. Just say it is 40mm now, which is pretty much the lift that most of the retailers like TJM and ARB sell these days.
