Hello fellow Jeep owners,
— A little background how I ended up here
During the pandemic a friend of mine asked me to check his Grand Cherokee WJ. I didn’t know much about the brand, model, european footprint (WG), etc. He complained that no one can diagnose this type of jeep around. The side effect of everything was that this platform started to become sympathetic. A big mistake.
— The Grand
I started looking for a WG due to rising need of towing light to medium loads, I ended up buying a WG one snowy morning. Some might say everyone has their bad days and (spoiler alert) most of the same people might say that was such a day for me.
This December 2021 morning I was up for a challenge - I wanted a Grand I can tinker with, not necessarily perform full restoration on, but be able to use for things around my house. I immediately spotted a few problems like leaking high pressure fuel pump, etc. but decided it was nothing I cannot sort out on my own and learn more about the platform along the way.
I own it for more than 2 years now and this forum has been essential to my whole ownership. My goal is to cover some interesting stages from my journey so far in several posts and then come to the present with my current challenges, trying to give some experience and info back to this community since it gave me so much, but also give an overview what it actually takes to have one of these 21 years after it was built.
PS Thanks to RTB for inspiring me to open this thread among everything else. I know it is long overdue.
So here is my 2003 (January) pre-facelift 2.7 CRD:
