I ask because you might get away with a set of normal roof racks depending on the weight.

This is the rack I have, but I think it’s too lightweight for a longboard, shortboard, and more for a road trip. Also a bit close together to support the length and drag of a longboard on the highway.Storage area is too small inside so I figure I’ll get a heavier duty rack and throw camping gear up there as well.

I’ll remove the Rhino tray when not being used.

Any idea if the AEV bull bar is approved for use/insurance in Aus? I think I prefer the look of it compared to ARB, TJM and Uneek.

I don't think it has been tested for ADR compliance. If you search you will find a few threads on the subject. Dealers would be advertising compliance if it was. That doesn't mean that your insurer won't cover you particularly if you disclose it and ensure it's listed on the policy. They may still try to dump you though. "ADR compliant" is the safest way to avoid the legal complications, unfortunately not always the schmickest looking.

Ahh ok now I know why you want the backbone system. I have the Vortex bars bolted through the hard top and recently purchased a Rhino tray to bolt on it as it's easier for the kayak.

The hard top is rated to carry 35kg so the backbone system is handy.

From memory, the AEV front bar is ADR compliant but has not been ADR tested. Which means that if they ever did test it for ADRs it would pass.

One way you can get around it if you are really want that bar is to get insured by Club4x4. They will accept and insure that bar.

There are no crash cans in the wrangler bars, they are deployed based on an accelerometer..... the ADRs are a load of crap designed to make us pay out the wazoo to enjoy our hobbies. The airbag will go off, bar or no damn bar....

This country is going to hell, it's a damn bureaucratic nightmare getting worse by the day.......
