Lucky when the battery in the fob is flat or just "not found" which mine does regularly...pressing the fob against the start button works just fine until battery replaced...
It always is a mongrel as to where to keep the spare fob on board for "just in case"...I normally carry it in the van when towing as will be away a while, otherwise in a "safe" place at home which is too safe...as I always have to search for it too...lol

Found that 'missing ' fob....ummm....hanging on a key rack that I dont use.....doh......will wait till I change out the failing car battery before I swap fobs....anything is possible with these electronic marvels....'perhaps' the failing car battery is throwing up the 'low key battery' message on the evic....not willing to rule that out...batteries in fobs were renewed only a few months ago....could have got a 'dodgy' fob battery....all possibilities are open

Mate mine chucks that every so often, I give the battery a wipe down with sensor cleaner or metho along with the tabs and it seems to go away for a few more months............... always have both fobs with us when travelling....

You can give the battery a rub on a piece of copy paper.
Do the same for AAA batteries in a remote.
They sort of leak throw the terminal metal & get a coating on the surfaces that dries & then no conductivity.

Unknown if the new car battery or spraying the fob internals n fob battery with Contact Cleaner did the trick...but....all good now.

Since they heat shrink the batteries nowadays its always wise to give them a rub before using to get any residue off..
