Following Bear TJ - does anyone know where the actual MY date is found on the Jeep? Or is it implied by one of the other date-stamps?
Exactly as per your first post, the 10th number/letter in the VIN represents the model year.

Thanks Bear

Not intending to contest your point but it doesn't match the posts that say that some MY vehicles can be manufactured in the preceding year - e.g. an MY2009 may have been manufactured in 2008.

My, perhaps incorrect, understanding of the VIN year is that it matches the build-date? It would certainly be easier if it matched the MY year but I am not sure that it does .

Cheers.

Thanks drover ,

I don't own a Jeep at present. I'm trying to learn how I can check the sales blurb against a vehicle. I doubt if they will print-off a build sheet for me Mind you, I would consider it a very strong selling point if they did.

Ah yes, that is indeed a large part of the problem

The digit in the VIN represents model year, not calendar year.
So yes, a MY2009 can be built in calendar year 2008 and it will have a VIN ending in 9xxxxxxx.

The breakdown description of the VIN that I have does indeed indicate that the digit is 'Model Year'.

If that is definitely the case, then it is easy to determine the MY and makes a mockery of some used Jeep ads out there.

To be fair to Jeep, ALL Manufacturers do this. The Model year starts around August/sept (used to be in line with the motor shows). They sell a car on the compliance date BUT they trade it in later on the build date. That way they double dip. You think you are getting the newest model and then when you go to sell you get less trade (which they then advertise at the compliance date)
