Default Intermittent wipers working intermittently

With the 27th birthday of my (95 Sport) XJ approaching in June, I noticed that my intermittent wipers are sometimes working. The intermittent wipers work at their slowest speed and highest speed, not in between. Sometimes they do not work at either the slowest or even highest.

Is this a problem with the all in one blinker/wiper, high beam stalk on the steering column, or something else?

Note: the continuous wipers work in normal and high speed so this is not a problem (... yet) - they have been doing lots of high speed lately with the La Nina rain bombs.

Am I up for a new pre-update stalk? Is there gunk somewhere in the stalk itself that has accumulated over the eons that I have owned the car? Is there a hack/fix to clean it?

I am just worried that the wiper functions of the stalk will all fail.

I went through another rain bomb yesterday on pavement and am I glad I drive this car! Had it in full time 4WD with water flowing over the road. The wipers got a high speed workout.

Eksjay,
There is a wiper speed module for the 95 model under the dash near the steering wheel. It looks like a small pack of cards.
Easy to replace, but have to find a known good one.
I think they can be repaired with a replacement Chrystal.

If you can be bothered wading through my Vsb14 thread, then you will see pics and everything..

Cheers,

Contact cleaner is good to remove years of "caked on gunk" from switch mechanisms, the dwell module is also worth following up, worst case scenario they do make after market dwell kits.
