Been trying to get the 'dodgy hoop thing' factory recovery loop off the front bar today to mount me decent hook and it just won't budge.

How did people attack it to get at the nut thats inside the bar?

Any advice here would be tops as i want to have it fitted by the weekend.

I didn't install the hooks myself, i got the boys at ARB Southside to do it for me, i am really slack. ;) It took them under 45 mins to install. Cost:

$18.00 per chrome hook,
$30 per hook to install.

They even installed spacers, painted the bolts chrome to match the hooks and gave me heaps of stickers and catalogues! All this a 2 year warranty on installation!

Not to mention a few cuppas while i watched 4wd videos on their widescreen TV in their customer lounge...

hey Jeeps

did they use the standard bolts that are in the pack or did they use other high tensile ones?

just had one fitted to the front of my car by Mick @ Suburban. had to get 1/2" x 3" UNC grade 8 high tensile bolts. If you notice the ones that come in the pack have their own nuts and are a finer thread.

Camel, the bolts that came with the hooks were far too long, and the ones already in the chassis were thrown out for they were too short when the spacers were added to raise the hooks' height. So one of the boys from ARB jumped in his Jeep (the guy who fitted has a beaut Jeep) and nicked off down the road to find me some bolts that would hold and be covered with their warranty. High tensile bolts they are. I figure they'll hold for about 3.25 tonnes which is plenty as the TJ is only 1.5 tonne. They didn't charge me extra for his 20 min drive to search for adequate bolts or to paint them silver to match. The new bolts just screwed straight into the nuts (which are welded to the chassis) and pretty much look like factory fittings.

By the way, i highly recommend these guys as they are professional, extremely friendly and definately know what the hell they are talking about, not to mention the excellent work they do.
