My XJ has met high ambient temps on many occasions, road or off-road.
Of course, air temp under bonnet appears high. There is a big engine in there working, what do you expect!? If you want a cool engine bay, feel a Prius's.
Ever put your head into a boiler room, or a diesel engine compartment in a boat?
You think there's a vent there for that reason?

I just find it amusing that people overthink a few things in the XJ, which is an extremly simple and sturdy vehicle to start with. Another favourite is the transmission oil cooler gauge, can't stop talking about that either...

Try hot metal areas in an aluminium smelter when the ambient temp outside is 40+* and the aluminium is 980* 1 metre away when you're trying to pull cables wearing full "blues" and woolen pants/jacket on top along with a hard hat and safety glasses etc, the jacket was vented though.....

Haha...yeah at the seams, or at the back? That makes a difference, I've been told
I for one try to stay away from aluminium smelters for this reason...

Don't be so patronising.
Of course we all know it bleeding hot under there!!!
But I for one, have found the XJ to be the first vehicle I have driven, that standard, heats the bonnet and surrounding areas to the point that you cannot touch it with your bare hands!!! So YES, mate, I phuking do wanna cool it down!!!

I am going to revisit this as I sold my vented bonnet some years ago due to not being overly happy with the paint job that I did on it, I'll be using the same vents again as I was happy with the result last time...
I'm still undecided Jj. Vents I think, to keep it as unnoticeable as possible.
I've been thinking about the scoop idea, and it would have to rearward facing, but in my opinion would need to be either the width of the rear of the bonnet or large, as in the reflexion type. If I had something like that, I would like to be able to close it off, remotely. Could possibly use a universal choke cable. But then it starts looking like too much work.

Vents I think....

cheers

I've also been considering this... why would you want to be able to close off a rear facing scoop?

Those with vents... what do you do about water getting in? Do you just position them not to hit anything electrical or can it be drained away somehow without affecting the flow of air?
