Default Optima battery replacement

Hi Guys n Gals,
Requesting a bit of feedback regards replacement of our original battery in our CRD 07 JK.

It has had a Red Top - Part No. 4868999 CCA 715 ah 50.
This battery has served us well 6years but is starting to fail and got it properly checked out today - replacement required.

Seems the part number has been superseeded and there are a number of different models with CCA's in Red tops between 720 & 800 - Models 25 & 35 same CCA 720 (polarity different) 34 & 34R ... dont think this is the right one. The 34/78 ?? These are the models listed on www.everybattery.com.au & I rang to ask if they could cross check the model for the vehicle... but could not do.

Which model have you all fitted to your JK?
Given that the Optima is situated in the Jeep with the label facing the fire wall - the positive pole is on the right (looking from the front of the vehicle) I think it is the 35... but would appreciate another opinion.

Cheers,
Elle

Don't know about the '07 battery, yours can't have lasted 6 years though unless you bought it from another car to your JK as 07-12 is only 5 years.

Mine is an 08 CRD and although it's been replaced twice under warranty there is an Optima yellow top D31A under my bonnet.

The positive on mine is to the front of the Jeep.

Of course your right.... 5 not 6 years as it is 2/07 plated vehicle. My Red Top has done well though.

Sorry to hear about that Jasper. Mine is an MY08 CRD also and was delivered 20th November 2007 and still has the stock Optima. Still cold starts beautifully.

Nah don't be sorry, I'm not complaining. It cost me nothing but time to get it replaced. That's what warranty is about.
Getting the things fixed that the dealership has f^cked up doing warranty work is the bigger pain in the ass but that is a topic for another thread. I won't air dirty laundry in some elses thread.

mate are you sure you have a jk diesel? the correct battery for the diesel is a yellow top optima. if you replace it by buying one from the dealer you will pay about $800 for a substandard battery there have been numerous threads about this. the wday to go is to buy from a battery shop a D 31 A. which has 900 CCA. it is the correct battery and will cost you a maximum of $450, a bit less if you shop around. and the battery is far better quality than the original and will last for a few more years. they are easy to get as they are made by goodyear.

I was at Battery World on Monday and they had a range of Optimas lined up along the wall. However they also had a heap of Century Yuasa batteries there with a 3 or 5 year warranty. I've been getting very long life from the century batteries in my work cars so reckon i'll try one of them in the jeep next time. A bonus is that they are made in Rocklea so they're aussie made...

just another option as i've heard that since Optimas aren't made in the USA anymore they aren't lasting as long as they used to...

cheers
