It's a really handy vehicle for my lifestyle and I still enjoy driving it........when it goes.

It does make me a little nervous when I start it each day though

My theory is that so much money has been spent on it surely there's not much left to go wrong lol.

It's well maintained, serviced every 5000k's and I only do about 10000ks a year. Mostly stop start driving. The body and interior are still great. Diffs, gear box fluid, fuel filter etc all changed regularly.

In the last 40000ks this is what's been replaced/ repaired.

New injectors, (ouch $) water pump, belt, shocks, tie rods, alternator, starter motor, rotors, steering dampner, power steering hoses, more injector seals ugghh. Window mechanisms x 3.
Rebuilt power steering pump, steering box, diesel pump.

What needs doing
Drivers seat no longer goes up or down, 1 more window to do, heater doesn't work.
Think it needs new front end rubbers, possible track bar. I'm sus on the MAF sensor and it occasionally surges at idle until it warms up.

What else do I have to watch out for

To sell it or not, I'm taking votes.

Have you or your husband been doing some repairs yourself?

All in all, the WG CRD is excellent value for what it is (turbo diesel solid-front 4WD that's still decent on-road), and I’m surprised it doesn’t have the hype of the TD42 Patrol or 1HD Land Cruiser.

The WG has heaps of good points over both the toyota and the nissan. Because the WG is a lot more technically advanced 4x4 it is not easily repaired or maintained by folks who are enthusiasts of older toyotas and nissans. On a 1hdt toyota the ONLY electrical component needed to keep the motor running is the fuel cut solenoid!! The WG is far more complex, but much more fuel efficient than the toyota. If you are not able to repair and maintain the WG yourself its probably not a good 4x4 for you. All 4x4s cost a lot to keep on the road and if you dont get parts from Rock Auto or similar in the USA it can get expensive. The WG can go anywhere a 1hdt toyota can go. I have a 80 series 1hdt toyota and a WG, and for me the Jeep is so much better on road, and off road I am selling the Toyota.

In some ways, I'm glad this isn't the case but then again I'd like to be able to sell my WJ one day for stupid Toyota money even when it's completely rooted.

I’ve found that most of the parts so far have been cheaper in price (when sourced from right places) compared to a Toyota 4WD from same era.

I was able to get a recon alternator from Germany for under $250 a while back.

I was constantly fixing the brakes (front and rear) on the toyotas, also same with wheel bearings, either adjusting them or new bearings. The swivel hub bearings (do the same job as ball joints) also a pain in the butt on the toy because of the time involved. To change the water pump on an 1hdt is a big job..the clutch on them is very weak and expensive..and a big job. On the subject of expense what i meant in regard to the Jeep was they will cost you a lot to keep on the road IF you get someone else to fix it for you AND get the parts from the stealership.

But Toyota's are the best 4WDs on the planet, just ask a Toyota owner and they're easy to find people to work on them anywhere in Australia

I agree if you know where to buy parts it's easy, quick and cheap. If you can't fix an older car yourself they're all expensive to own in my experience.
