I’m a Wrangler fanatic through and through. But Wranglers of all varieties just aren’t the best tow vehicles for heavier applications or up around their maximums.

If I was towing up to 1,500kg with a JK I wouldn’t have an issue as I don’t look for speed, more comfort. Anything much over 1,500kg up to the max I would only do if not an ‘expedition’ style trip, or a once a year type affair. I used to use my JK to tow my boat /trailer of approx. 2,000kg but the boat ramp is only 4km from my driveway on a flat road. Even then I did notice it didn’t feel as ‘easy’ as it was when towed behind my older VY SS Ute.

I've been very happy in the main with my CRD JKU but would have to concur that as a mainstream tow vehicle for anything beyond light work they dont really shine. Mine is a manual so it may have been harder than an auto..but a recent 600 km round trip with a 6x 4 loaded with steel plate and gal pipe and a lot of hills, really took its toll on me and the car. It was working hard and I've never known it to let me down torque wise when climbing hills before. Didnt like dragging that weight at all. A 'true lightweight' camper trailer 1200 kg or so would likely be fine but 'light weight' is a relative term to some manufacturers.
