Static could be as simple as squelch adjustment. Otherwise a poor earth on the antenna, or a bad power feed (though that will usually only be with the engine running). Can run a suppressor on the power supply if that is the case.

Adjust the squelch to a fairly high level. Most times the people you want to talk to are only 1 - 2kms away (if that). Doing this will cut out a lot of unnecessary background rubbish.

I only use mine either in convoy or to trucks on the highway. More often than not they are within shouting distance anyway.

Buy yourself a little speaker and mount it on the B pillar next to your ear. That way you can still hear transmissions and your passengers don't have to.

I'll check the earthing later - a quick Google search suggests I just need to check for continuity. I did turn up the squelch to either 5 or 6 out of 7 on my drive home today from work and that seemed to solve a few issues. Could hear 2 blokes chat away nicely on channel 40 so that's good. Not sure if I can increase my distance or if it's even necassary.

Thank you. I mainly drive around by myself anyway, and I probably won't be using it all the time so I don't think my imaginary passengers will be annoyed by it .

A photo of my J.W. Speaker 8700s. I Installed them about a week ago, but I installed the parking lights parts today. Blue wire onto the blue one from the old parkers. Only need to hook up the red wire to a switched power supply when I install a switched fusebox in the cabin. I think I'd prefer that instead of having 6 piggy backed fuses in the original fusebox.

Made my spider gears go bang in my front diff, brought a swift end to the competition I was in, only 30seconds in on the first track.... Surprisingly no damage to R & P. Time for lockers

I'm impressed! I wonder if there was a flaw in one of those pieces that set it off?

I would say so, it went off very quietly with a small pop. Both top and bottom spider gears exploded into large pieces, only damaging one side gear slightly. All the pieces just fell to the front of the diff cover sparing the rest of the diff from damage.
