Get the front struts fitted, then no more worries for another 100,000km’s

When I was at the Sydney Caravan & camping Expo last year the boys from one of the stand's (Pedder's I think) told me "It is not a good idea to mix shock absorber brands as they are engineered to work together as a packaged set", So if their logic is right then fitting the matching struts would be the go.

Is there any suspension guy’s out there who can confirm or deny this

I forgot about this site in my fav folder, It is a simulator on how to load your van and weight distribution.

I noticed that if you balance the ball weight at 10% it says its to heavy, go figure

Thats Bailey ...they go for payloads of around 200-300kg, we just about have that in water. European data.

USA, generally have payloads closer to ours 600 to 900kg with ATM around 3000kg with ball weights 10-15%.
Reece wdh etc...havnt seen that on the european stuff.
Jeep is of USA breeding as well. Think I will stay with USA data but move closer to 10% ball weight of ATM vs 15%..

We are going to change front struts plus replace springs as we are taking the GC to 90% of advertised max specs.

I just got my insurance renewal from GIO and had to add the heavy duty suspension to it.

They where going to charge me an extra excess until I explained it wasn't a “performance modification” and I wasn’t wanting to increase the sum insured, just list it on the policy so they can’t reject a claim.

Anyway GIO want $680.00 for comprehensive cover ($28000), Is this good, bad or average

Hi Clarky,
I paid $567.00 for market value, which I was told was between $28K - $37K.
I do have 2 other vehicles with the same company.

Cheers, Craig

Shocks should be matched to spring rate and to a desired ride, ie soft firm etc.
They dont need to be matched brands and front and back shocks will almost always need to be valved differently.
Many aftermarket suspension suppliers will claim many kays testing but in reality low volume vehicles like the grand usually get shocks designed for other vehicles but that happen to fit, sometimes they dont even fit well.
