Just had a full service last week and the diff oils were checked. The mechanic said that the oil was as clean as.
My Jeep (apart from latest service) has been serviced by the same Jeep dealship from where it was originaly purchased, as per the book.
BTW: It has never done any off roading.

Cheers, Craig

Acoustic noise maybe?
Do you still have the plastic transmission guard fitted?
I had a noise which ended up being the spare rim on the roof rack, only at certain speeds, had me baffled for a while.

I've started to get a lowlevel whine while coasting, especially coasting while descending. Have read common issues with front diff but who knows. I am going back to Nulon diff oil.

I have had a similar sound since I bought mine second hand late 2010 model. .Dealer spent hours with 6 electronic ears all over the vehicle ,no real conclusion on what it is.Noise is there in all gears plus neutral standing still, from around 75-100kph or at certain revs relating to those speeds then disappears ,its a wrr wrr whistle /whine. Bloody annoying. Ran motor without serp belt, checked everything. However mine also has a big bore exhaust and muffler.!!
I can only conclude its a motor resonance noise, maybe associated with the non std exhaust system. There have been a couple of others over the last few years with the same problem.

I have only noticed it since having Stu's exhaust fitted.
It almost sounds like the tailshaft is out of balance, yet when it is making this noise, there is no vibration felt through the vehicle.
If you back off the pedal between 80 - 100 Kph and sit on a steady speed, you can't hear the noise.
Just wondering if anyone else out there has experienced this same sound?
Thanks in advance, Craig.
How many km on the clock. Your issue certainly sounds like a diff whine so check the diff oil yourself and if there's any doubt just change it for a high quality Nulon or Penrite 80W/140 fully synthetic with the limited slip additive already included. Grand & Commander diffs should have the oil changed every 20,000km if going off road or towing. If you change the diff oil and then the noise is still there then at least you have confirmed you have the correct diff oil, a small price to pay but a big piece of mind.
As we know Dealers and even well known Jeep specialist repairs still use the wrong oils on occasions. EG Transfer Cases & Diffs
Here's the links to two very good oils to use:
