Default XJ NP242J looking for part

Hi all, new to these forums and jeeps in general. Recently my 2001 XJ's transfer case started grinding pretty bad. After taking it apart I discovered that the gear inside the planetary on the mainshaft had been ground down. After scouring the internet for a while trying to find a replacement gear I had no luck. Hope someone on here can help me identify the part and possibly where to pick one up. Cheers.

Proably you will find it easier to get a whole car or a complete t/f case easier and cheaper than the parts.

I agree,

An NP242 from a wreckers or Facebook Market place, or Gumtree will be the best bet. They are usually bullet proof.

Rockauto has a bunch of parts for the transfer cases.. but not sure they do the gears like those..

Cheers,

I bought one just for such an occasion, I think it cost me in the order of $75-100, but I did have to remove it myself.

some bloke lived 5 minutes away wanted about the same for one that "needed attention"..I offered $30, but he declined

golden rule of old auto parts,,selling, no one wants them, buying and they are rare as hens teeth and cost the earth...I once through away half a dozen International D1100 doors, not long after, a bloke was desperate for one, I wasnt so heartless to say what had happened

Do wish I had asked more for the disc braked Dana 60, that was heavily in demand
