Default Going to look at diesel kj tomorrow

Hey guys, I've been away from the 4wd scene since I was a bit younger and had old hiluxs an the like. I've caught the bug again and have found myself a nice little stock as a rock 02 kj sport crd. Low k's etc.
Is there any problem areas I should be checking out first?
Also couldn't seem to find any pricing for the crdstu lift kit?
I live on the gold coast so I guess I could go up to Brisbane to pick up the gear, but how much will it set me back?
And the bash plate?

Mods will be pretty standard, lift. Tyres, lights etc. Won't be doing anything too crazy, mainly road with the occasional camping trip.
And (maybe) attempt a cape York trip in a year or so to let me get comfortable with the car

All I can think about is getting a jeep! Haha. It's crazy!

Cheers for any feedback guys!

I'd just give Stu a ring and he can give you the lift price on the phone. Spring set depends on what you want to run on the front (like are you going to have a bar, winch, etc).

Bash plates (there are four of these: engine, transmission, transfer case and fuel tank) that were originally made by Mopar. You may already have the engine bash plate as most (if not all) CRDs came with them from the factory). Best bet there is to ring one of the larger dealer part departments and see if they can still get you one - Mansfield is a good start. There are aftermarket ones but they are US based and shipping would be expensive. Alternatively you could get a fabricator to make something up.

As far as problem areas, just check the turbo hoses - if they are weeping oil or feel really soft they probably need replacement. There are Samco silicon hose kits for the 2.8L and I think they also make a kit for the earlier years, best check with cmohr on that (or call Hyperflow the Samco reseller that most Jeep people have been using).

ANyway , welcome and good luck, let the fun begin.

One more thing.... How much room is there from the tailgate to the bal of the front seats with the rears folded down?
Just curious because I have to transport something that's 102cm long is all...

Ok just spoke to the owner and apparently the timing belt wasn't done at 100000, an it's now on 126000.....
Is this costly on the diesel kj?

Good luck and hope you enjoy the KJ experience. One good thing about KJ or Jeeep ownership is that there is plenty of resources on line to help when things are a bit unknown to you. Between members of AJOR & LOST Jeeps sites' individual knowledge etc. you should enjoy the world of 4wding & jeeps.
