I got it! Guts still seem pretty intact too!

I had a 10mm gap that gave a mate and I enough room to lever the release. A painstaking process.

Check out the wear!

Is it worth machining this or should I just get a new drum?

Only way to know is get them measured at the place who machine them. That shouldn't cost you a cent.

Now to work out why those pins have come loose? They may have no been put in properly last time someone did the shoes. When refitting them the easiest way to get the pins back in is, push them through the hole in the backing plate and the shoe, hold them in with one hand on the back side of the plate. plce the washer/clip on; then use a 10mm socket an extenstion bar to compress the spring. With your other hand use one finger to turn the pin and let the socket off. I see a few guys using pliers etc on the head of the pin. I also see stuffed pins doing it that way and the Jeep springs are pretty stiff, which make them all the harder. Good to hear it is all apart now.

regards A
