They promise an upgrade this year.

Jeep will NOT get you from Coffs to the Gold Coast and back again.
To be honest if you need a GPS for Coffs to the Gold Coast and back i'd be concerned, there is literally zero turns or exits.

Spoke with my local Jeep dealer service centre today.
Apparently, the updates were due in the first quarter (by the end of this month).
Shouldn't be too long I was told. They are not sure of costs as yet.

A lot of piss & wind if you ask me!

Cheers, Craig

The Hema gets good raps particularly off road which is what I'm interested in. The other option I haven't looked too deep into is a cheap arse 7" Android tablet running OzziExplorer.
OziExplorer is not a navigation program: it's great for showing where you've been, useless for telling you where to go. Try the CoPilot app - cost about $60-$70 for a full set of Australian maps, and $30-$40 to upgrade the maps.

I won't say I'm happy with the Jeep system: the maps in my 2014 Limited were out of date when I bought it and no upgrade is available yet. Having said that, it's a fairly useful system when you don't know the area and the way it displays the next turn in the centre of the instrument panel is definitely a good feature.

Finally a comment on the Jeep Nav off road....LOL. What does the display show mate? Is it topographic info or just base map type stick diagrams of tracks?

I have been using a 7" Samsung tablet with OziExplorer and Sygic for years. The screen is easy to read and big enough that you don't need to concentrate to read it. I have it on a suction cup tablet holder with a long arm and mount it low on the windscreen so that the screen is just above the centre of the dash. It does not obstruct vision of the road at all, just the bonnet.

Ozi is fantastic for bush travel. I have many GB of maps of Australia and overseas at scales from 1;10,000 through 1:250,000 and beyond. You can easily put in way points for navigation and then define routes. The 2016 HEMA 1:150,000 map is a good general purpose travel map.

For turn by turn navigation, Sygic is really good and you can buy mapping for any country you are likely to travel in. Navigon is another excellent option.

I am waiting on delivery of my new Grand Cherokee Limited with the Off Road II pack - air suspension, bash plates and the E-Diff - so it will be interesting to see what the navigation system is like.

Cheers
