Default Grand Cherokee Engine Replacement

Hi all
Hope I am in the right area.
Have just done a main bearing in a WK2 MY14 Grand Cherokee.
The mechanic says the motor will have to be replaced. I have been given an estimate of $19k and two to three months turnaround.
First issue with the cat after 250,000 km.
I am hoping you can let me know if the price and timing are realistic. These vehicles with many less km go for around $25k. If that price is realistic it would maybe mean the best option is wrecking the vehicle. It was log book serviced and still in VGC. What could I expect from a wrecker with the blown motor-it still runs but has a cyclic noise and metal has been left in the filter.
We are in South Coast NSW
Any assistance most appreciated
Peter

Cheapest repair option is to fit a complete second hand low km engine from a wreckers & use your old engine for spares ie: injectors, HP pump, sensors etc.

Cheapest engine I could find is here:
https://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/chel...ine/1301136706

This is one of the places the wrecking yards get their vehicles from so if you watch the live bids you'll get an idea of what the vehicles sell for:
https://www.pickles.com.au/damaged-s...and%20Cherokee.))

If you sell it to a Jeep wrecker they'll more than likely repair it (fit a 2nd hand engine) & sell it on for a profit

Cheers

I would look for another vehicle, strip the good bits from the old wagon and push it to a wreckers or sell off the bits myself .............. 250K km with the hassle and time spent dropping another engine in and sorting out any problems with it, and in a short while be over 300K km, far better to find a new rig which in the end be about similar dollars and less K's on the clock...........

A well respected wrecker and repairer of these buses is All Grand Cherokee in Springvale VIC....03852 13329....with the $19k price tag your talking its obviously a new motor n 3mths may well be the waiting time...you could do some searching yourself and maybe source a new motor quicker, but, its still a lot of cash....motor transplants in any car are a big gig, but these buses are a front of car removal job...LOTS of labor hours in price
